Mining Rights Amendment
Act, No. 73 of 1988
Long title
To amend the provisions of the Mining Rights Act, 1967, so as to remove the restriction on the mass of unwrought precious metal which may be possessed or disposed of under a certificate of the mining commissioner; to abolish the prohibition on the effecting of certain transactions in connection with unwrought precious metal during certain times or in certain days; to remove the restriction on the mass of precious metal which may be contained in any material which may be made up, smelted or changed as to the form thereof, during any one day by the holder of a jeweller's permit without the written authority of the Commissioner of the South African Police or a person designated by him; to permit the issuing of jewellers' permits to Black persons also in respect of areas outside the released areas or scheduled Black areas as defined in the Development Trust and Land Act, 1936; to extend the rights conferred by a jeweller's permit on the holder thereof; to dispense with the compulsory monthly furnishing by the holder of a jeweller's permit of a copy of his register to the Commissioner of the South African Police; to authorize the holders of jewellers' permits to transport unwrought precious metal without a permit issued by the Commissioner of the South African Police or a person designated by him; and to increase the amounts of certain fines; and to provide for matters connected therewith.
