LEGAL REGISTERS
The audit, and compilation and updating of legal registers to ensure legislation-related compliance programmes need to be focused, effective and cost-effective.
A legal register is a list of legislation to be complied with, and is the backbone of an effective and cost-effective legislation-related compliance programme. The constant stream of national, provincial and local government legislation emanating from government, results in new or changed definitions of potential transgressors, or of the facts that would amount to potential transgressions.
Whether or not a piece of legislation is included in or excluded from a legal register depends on the potential transgressor status of the person or entity to which the legal register applies.
